History

Prior to this armory being built, the 65th Regiment occupied the Broadway Arsenal/Armory from 1858 - 1907. In 1931 a fire started in the basement of the Masten Avenue Armory. This not only destroyed the armory, it spread and destroyed a church and many nearby homes. It has been called one of the worst fires in the history of the city of Buffalo.

A new armory was built on the foundation of the former armory in an art-deco style. During the time between the fire and completion of the new armory, the 106th Field Artillery unit stayed in the Brooklyn Auditorium, as well as, an abandoned automobile warehouse at 45 Jewett Avenue.
