The 87th Regiment, or “Brooklyn Rifles,” mustered into service for three years between October and December 1861. On Sept. 6, 1862, the regiment consolidated with the 40th Regiment N. Y. Volunteer Infantry, in which organization its members completed their term of service. This blue, silk regimental color received from the City of New York features the Arms of the City of New York on both the obverse and reverse.
